The licensing worker came this afternoon. Lots of good news for us.
1. We turned in all of our application stuff today! We have 90 days to take care of the final pieces; health screening, and fingerprints; also Nate's employment verification.
2. We discovered our roomie [Nate's step-sister] can continue to live here unless our child is 25 months and over because then we can't share our room with the baby.
3. We have options to think about; concurrent family planning or only adoption. the concurrent family planning option lets us take a newborn and regular adoption does not. The concurrent family planning option doesn't give us a guarantee that we can adopt that child in the long run, but the regular adoption is giving us a child who has already had parents who lost all rights.
4. If we do concurrent family planning the child will be a foster child in our care which means we have a few extra benefits until the adoption is finalized or they move to another family such as free childcare and financial reimbursement plus some respite care hours. There is also 24 hour counseling available if you're struggling to bond. The adoption program doesn't give us these options.
Also, we were told we can't use a drop crib in our home because they are no longer legally allowed come June. Thats the type of crib we are getting for free but we are going to take it anyways and have it at my parents house as a back up for when we go play at their house and its nap time. Please keep us in mind if you come across a crib for free thats NOT a drop crib :]
